Roll up whenever the sun's out.
Naenae Bowling Club has been playing on the same green in the Hutt Valley since 1953. Mixed-membership, open twilights every Friday from October to March, and bowls until you find a set you like.
"First roll-up in ten years. Waved through the front door, sets in my hand within five minutes. Fantastic."
Three greens, seventy-three summers, one very stubborn hedge.
We opened on land the council forgot about. A few returned servicemen laid the first green by hand — twelve months of level checks, borrowed rollers, and one memorable delivery of the wrong topsoil.
Seventy-three years later, we're still here. Still on the same block. Still watching the same weathervane spin.
Two houses, one game.
Social, whites optional
Named after the sun on the greens at 6pm. This is where most of our members started — no team required, no ranking, no expectations. Bring a plate for the shared table, bring a friend if you've got one.
Coaching help is on the sidelines every Friday. Ask for a walk-through of stance and delivery.
Whites, teams, results
Saturday pennant runs October to March. We enter three teams across two grades.
Whites are required. Ties optional. Selectors watch every Friday twilight to see how the summer bowls are running.
